Child lock for drawers and cupboards
To protect little hands, we created a child safety lock for drawers and cupboards as a DIY project.
Our customer sent us a clever idea. Emptying all the drawers by our daughter should now be a thing of the past.
Child safety lock for drawers and cupboards
Hello Magnet-Shop Team!
After our daughter discovered the handles of our kitchen drawers and cupboards and made emptying them her daily task, we saw an urgent need for action.
She could pinch her hand or fingers. The contents of the drawers and cupboards could pose a danger.
Our first step was to research the child safety locks available on the market. Disillusionment quickly followed; What a disappointment!
Most of the plastic "locks" offered proved unsuitable for the drawers.
However, with most of the applicable ones, there was the added hassle of screwing all the latches and hooks into the cabinets. Also very unsightly: a built-in version with adhesive pads simply fell off after two warm days.
So the challenge was to keep our daughter and her amazing strength away from the handles in the kitchen. Or... keep the handles away from our daughter. Of course, we unscrew the handles! But then how do the adults get the doors and drawers open?! This is where your famous magnet shop comes into play – in the form of a "magnet opener."
The order included: 15 x metal disc Ø 20 mm with hole and countersink nickel 1 x NdFeB Deep pot magnet Ø 20 x 25 mm, brass, tolerance h6 - 28.6 kg. From the hardware store I also got 15 x 4mm countersunk screws, washers and self-locking screws. And in the basement, the plastic tube of a disused car window squeegee was found.

Magnetic protection from small children's hands
