Magnetic bamboo picture holder for calligraphy; A real eye-catcher!
Required materials:
- Format approx. 70 x 30 cm
- 4 bamboo sticks, approx. 1 m long with a diameter of 10 mm
- White twine, length approx. 1 m
- Adhesive ("superglue" based on cyanoacrylate)
- 8 Rod magnet Ø 3.0 x 10.0 mm N45 nickel - holds 500 g
The following tools were used for processing:
- Drill
- Twist drill specifically for wood with a diameter of 3 mm
- Vise
- Fine saw
Manufacturing process:
Shortening the sticks:
Four sticks of equal length, approximately 37 cm, were sawn from the four bamboo pieces. The sections should be as straight as possible and have barely noticeable differences in weight and diameter. In the next production step, holes were drilled at a distance of 4 cm from a cutting point.
Knots should be avoided if possible.
Processing the sticks:
To locate suitable drilling locations, the sticks were placed on a table and slowly rolled back and forth. This makes it easier to identify suitable spots on the sticks. These were marked by scoring with the help of the drill. The bamboo sticks were clamped in a vise before drilling. This prevents the bamboo from splitting. The use of a wood drill is recommended for this purpose. Two holes were drilled per stick, 4 cm apart. The depth is 8 mm. The magnets to be inserted find a stop in the bamboo stick due to this depth.
Inserting the magnets:
The rod magnets were then coated with adhesive and inserted into the drilled holes. The magnets should be used with alternating polarity: one south pole, one north pole. Only by alternating polarity can you create four structurally identical rods, which can later be assembled into a functional picture holder.
Creating the loop:
Knot the twine into a loop. This will be used for hanging later.
Now all the necessary parts for the picture holder are ready

Hanging:
Ready to hang. Wrap the loop on the top rod in a triangular shape around the magnets and clamp them, along with the inserted picture, between the bamboo sticks. The magnets attract each other thanks to their alternating polarization.
Hang the finished artwork wherever you want it
