Magnetic attachment of handlebar cuffs

Our customer is reluctant to give up riding his motorcycle in the winter, but he certainly doesn't want to give up his freezing hands, so he came up with a perfect idea: magnetically attaching handlebar warmers.

I'm a long-time motorcyclist and ride my motorcycle in the winter, too. I bought an old motorcycle sidecar (built in 1979) for this purpose, which I've been riding in the winter for years. The vehicle has winter tires and leg protection.

Since my hands sometimes get too cold and wet, my family gave me heated motorcycle warmers. These are very easy to install and keep my hands nice and warm.
Unfortunately, these warmers aren't attached to the handlebar ends. This makes it difficult to put my hands in while riding. You also have to take your hand off the handlebars from time to time while riding to open or clean the visor.

I equipped the grips with strong neodymium flat gripper/pot magnets with a threaded bushing. Neodymium pot magnet Ø 32.0 x 7.0 mm with socket M5 holds 35 kg

Magnetic attachment of handlebar grips in detail:

To make it easier and faster for the customer to slip on and off the grips, he attached a screw with a large washer to each handlebar end for attaching the handlebar counterweights.

Now I can quickly install the grips. They are firmly attached to the handlebar, allowing me to easily insert and remove my hands while riding. If I ever have a defect on the handlebar, such as a broken throttle cable, I can remove the grips without tools and quickly reinstall them.

Thanks to the strong magnets, the grips stay in place even at speeds over 120 km/h!

It's important, however, that the magnets have enough iron to adhere to so that they can develop their full holding force. Hence the thick, large washers on the handlebar ends.
