Magnetic knife holder made of cherry wood
I wanted to make something special for my father's birthday…
Magnetic knife holder made of cherry wood
For this, I got three planks. These were planed by a carpenter and cut into 20 mm strips. There was quite a bit of waste, but it was enough to make two boards in the required dimensions.
After the rough cut, the miter cuts for the stand were made, and the positions for the magnets were marked. The holes for the magnets are so deep that only 3 mm of wood remained. I couldn't drill the middle holes with the drill press because its reach is too small. That's why the cordless drill is in the picture.
I used 37 the disc magnet Ø 15.0 x 5.0 mm N40 nickel - holds 4.8 kg, which were glued in place with mounting adhesive.
Then, the front and back panels were glued together. To mill the radius, I used a leftover piece of cabinet back panel. I screwed a piece of 20 mm dowel to it so that it would fit into the bench holes.
Luckily, one of the holes was the correct distance from the router bit.
After that, all I had to do was glue on the base, sand it, and oil it. For oiling, I used Clou hard oil and applied approximately 7 coats.
