Magnets against bicycle theft

Our customer has an ingenious solution that he would like to share with us; Magnets against bicycle theft.

In today's application, he shows you how you too can make life difficult for bicycle thieves!

Magnets against bicycle theft

To secure the thru axles on bicycle wheels against theft, I countersunk a magnet into the Allen screw (note the size!).

Products used:
3x Disc magnet Ø 5.0 x 5.0 mm N45 nickel - holds 1.1 kg (one per wheel)
1x Disc magnet Ø 7.0 x 7.0 mm N40 nickel - holds 1.7 kg

This can be removed using a magnet. I implemented this with a quick-release set using a special 5-point wrench; of course, it also works with normal Allen screws. In the picture you can see the screw for securing the saddle with a magnet and the larger magnet glued into the special key.

I think it's a good solution to prevent opportunistic theft of the It's unlikely that a thief would carry a matching key and a magnet.
