Hanging tea cans and storing them to save space
Hello,
I would like to share my magnet application with you.
To create space on the countertop, the tea tins need to be placed under the shelf directly above them. Instead of a more complex storage solution, a friend suggested using magnets.
Voilà.
With two neodymium pot magnet Ø 16.0 x 5.0 mm with countersink - 150°C, a tea caddy weighing up to 600 g can be suspended in a "floating" manner. Two magnets of this category (which can actually hold up to 2.3 kg) are only necessary because they are covered in felt. This is intended to prevent scratches on the caddy and also provide a certain amount of acoustic insulation when attaching it. Alternatively, a single, larger and stronger magnet could be used. A larger surface area would also make attaching easier. You could just as easily do without the felt altogether.
How does it work? It's very straightforward.
The shelf in our example is made of wood, so the pre-drilled holes should be very thin to avoid splitting the shelf base. The felt should completely enclose the magnets, meaning it should be screwed tightly between the shelf and the magnet to ensure it stays in place. The screws shouldn't pull on the felt thread when attaching it, so it's best to cut it lightly in the appropriate places. To do this, you can wrap the felt around the magnet once and mark the "holes" with a pencil, where you then make a tiny cut with scissors. Afterward, the magnets can be prepared with the screw and felt. All that's left to do is screw them under the shelf (hold the screws with the magnet in place beforehand to check that they're the right length). And now we have a practical way to hang our tea tins.
