Cyanoacrylate adhesive: Glue firmly in seconds
When the expert says cyanoacrylate adhesive, he means nothing other than good old superglue. The colloquial name is of course much more catchy and sums up the great advantage of this product: In a matter of seconds it bonds a wide variety of materials cleanly and with high strength. In the household it is the practical helper when something breaks again. But he can do much more! In our shop you can also buy cyanoacrylate adhesive approved for food, medicine and other sensitive areas.
How does cyanoacrylate adhesive work?
Cyanoacrylate adhesive or instant adhesive is a so-called one-component adhesive. That means it consists of just one component: Cyanoacrylate, a chemical compound that is liquid at room temperature. It is often used as an adhesive. The curing of such an adhesive takes place via humidity, so it must be stored in an airtight and cool place.
After application, cyanoacrylate-based superglue hardens quickly, only a short press is necessary. It is therefore perfect for small areas that need to be bonded quickly, firmly and cleanly.
A distinction is made between cyanoacrylate adhesives according to their viscosity. Low-viscosity superglues are suitable for gluing plastic and rubber to one another or to one another. Superglue with a high viscosity, on the other hand, is particularly suitable for porous and absorbent surfaces.
Which materials can be glued with cyanoacrylate adhesives?
The success of superglue is explained not only by its quick grip, but certainly also by the fact that it can be used on so many materials, including:
- Synthetic substances
It thus covers many household applications. But because super adhesive is so efficient and used for small areas, it also means you have to be careful not to glue your own fingers together.
By the way: You can also use cyanoacrylate superglue to attach objects in aquariums. It is non-toxic and does not release any pollutants into the water.
But cyanoacrylate adhesive is not only intended for domestic use. It can also be used for connections in industry. Toy manufacturers use it for rubber and plastic bonding, jewelry manufacturers for processing metal.
In our online shop you will also find cyanoacrylate adhesives with so-called NSF approval for sensitive areas. Such instant adhesives are food safe and may be used in the medical field. There, cyanoacrylate adhesive is needed to seal wounds or to seal or seal utensils such as catheters, syringes or endoscopes.
Use and remove cyanoacrylate adhesives
A glue gap that is as small as possible is a prerequisite for the use of superglue. In addition, the surfaces must be clean and dry for a firm bond. If the surfaces are smooth, you should roughen them mechanically. For materials that are difficult to bond, such as plastics such as PP, PE or silicone, there are appropriate primers - you will also find these in our range.
Cyanoacrylate is temperature resistant up to about 180 degrees Celsius. If it is exposed to temperatures above this mark, adhesive bonds can be loosened again. The adhesive can also be removed after prolonged exposure to moisture or when treated with acetone.
