What does the magnetization direction of neodymium rod magnets mean?
As soon as we split a rod-shaped super magnet into two parts at the circular areas, it has a north and a south pole. The adhesive force of a neodymium magnetic rod is strongest at its poles. In the center they have no relevant magnetization. The direction of magnetization is determined by the length of the magnet axis. A rodmagnet with dimensions of 15 x 8 x 5 millimeters with a magnetization direction through 5 millimeters has its poles on the large rectangular areas. If the direction of magnetization were specified as 15 millimeters, the poles would be on the narrow side surfaces.
What are axially magnetized rod magnets?
Usually, most of the neodymium magnetic rod that you find in our magnet shop are axially magnetized. This means that the north and south poles are at the end of the neodymium rodmagnet. This can be transferred to a compass. Like a compass needle, the magnets react to objects. In their midst there is hardly any attraction.
What are diametrically magnetized rod magnets?
In exceptional cases, our neodymium magnetic rods can also be diametrically magnetized. With this type of magnetism, the north and south poles of the bar are not at the end, but on the long side of the product. The magnetic waves emanate from the left and right sides and not, as usual, from above or below. If several neodymium rod magnets are coupled together, this is done with axially magnetized rod magnets like on a freight train, while diametrically magnetized bars can be lined up next to each other like fish sticks on the baking tray.
