What is spray adhesive?
It doesn't come from a stick or cartridge, it isn't brushed on, and it doesn't liquefy: spray adhesive is applied using a pressurized container that distributes a thin mist of adhesive onto the surfaces to be bonded. This makes it ideal for use on large surfaces. You can therefore apply the adhesive quickly and evenly over several square centimeters or even square meters. This ensures uniform adhesion across the entire surface.
Spray adhesive is suitable for use on:
- fabric
- paper
- textile
- styrofoam
- felt
- faux Leather
- wood
- PVC
- foam
- metal
- foil
Spray adhesive is also available in various strengths and for a wide range of materials. It can be purchased as either a removable or permanent adhesive. Removable spray adhesive can be removed even after several days to reposition and re-bond elements.
The permanent version of spray adhesive, on the other hand, is extra strong, provides a secure bond, and cannot be removed or repositioned once applied.
What are the advantages of spray adhesive?
One of the practical advantages of spray adhesive is not only its suitability for bonding large surfaces, but also its transparency after application. This is especially important when repairing objects, as you want the bond to be as inconspicuous as possible.
It is also desirable to avoid soft materials warping due to the adhesives used. An even application is particularly important with materials like foam. This is not a problem with spray adhesive, as it can be applied in a consistently thin layer using the can. Spray adhesive can also be heat-resistant and moisture-resistant – an important property in some applications.
Water-resistant spray adhesives, for example, is particularly suitable for outdoor use.
Our product range includes both removable spray adhesives (when applied to one side) and extra-strong spray adhesives for strong and permanent bonding on uneven and rough surfaces. This ensures that suitable products are available for a variety of requirements.
What are some suitable applications for spray adhesive?
Spray adhesive is ideal for crafting and decorating because it works with many popular craft materials, including cardboard, paper, and felt. It can also be used to bond other materials very effectively, including smooth surfaces like metal. However, you should primarily choose lighter materials.
For example, spray adhesive works well with paper but is less suitable for holding heavy steel plates. For that, you'll need a special industrial adhesive.
Spray adhesive can also be used effectively with textiles and clothing. For instance, you can use it to bond fabric and repair tears with a suitable textile spray adhesive.
Since it's ideal for large areas, it's also suitable for upholstery and car repairs, for example, covering the headliner or trunk with faux leather using spray adhesive.
Even genuine leather can be bonded with spray adhesive.
It can also be very useful in model making, for example, for covering large areas with grass. Spray adhesive is also used for certain applications involving wood.
Tip: the use of removable spray adhesive can also be practical, allowing objects to be separated later and used elsewhere.
How to use spray adhesive?
For best results, use spray adhesive in a well-ventilated area with a large work surface, covering it with paper or foil.
When spraying, maintain a distance of 20 to 30 centimeters between the can and the surface to be bonded.
The surfaces must also be free of grease and dust and should be dry. After spraying, allow the adhesive to dry briefly before joining the two elements. This takes a few minutes (refer to the manufacturer's instructions).
Then press the surfaces together and allow the adhesive to cure for several hours. Any remaining spray adhesive can be removed with lighter fluid or turpentine substitute.
Can spray adhesive be used in conjunction with magnets?
There's generally nothing wrong with attaching smaller and lighter magnets to suitable surfaces using spray adhesive. However, special adhesive for magnets are ideal. This is specifically designed for use on magnetic surfaces. Before applying the adhesive, the surfaces should be clean, dry, and free of dust or grease to ensure reliable adhesion. It's also advisable to allow the adhesive to dry briefly after application before attaching the magnet.
