Blackboard paint / blackboard film: Practical surface for writing on with chalk
Blackboard paint is characterized by countless possible uses. Since the product is ideal for painting, playing and learning for school, it is particularly popular for use in children's rooms. With the help of blackboard paints and varnishes, you can quickly and easily transform any imaginable surface into a surface that can be written on with chalk. The labeled surfaces can be wiped off with a damp cloth at any time.
What exactly is blackboard paint?
Blackboard paint gives you the opportunity to use your walls in a very special way. By attaching the product to a surface, it turns into a surface that you can use
- be able to describe, paint and decorate to your heart's content.
- be able to add important notes and reminders.
The times when you had to use sticky notes to remind yourself of all important things to do are over now. Since blackboard paint is made from rubber lacquer and is insoluble in water, you can write on the surfaces with chalk over and over and then simply wipe them off with a damp cloth. After the board has dried, it is ready for use again as usual and can be written on with chalk.
What can I use blackboard paint for?
Probably there is hardly a child in this world who is not happy when they can let off steam artistically on a wall and paint it as much as they can. A writable board surface as an alternative to the pin board is also ideal above the desk in the children's room or the parents' workstation at home (if you prefer a magnetic wall surface, we recommend our magnetic paint instead of blackboard paint). This way, your kids always have an overview of the school timetable and you can quickly write down important notes that you must not forget under any circumstances.
You can also use blackboard paint to paint other areas of your apartment, such as the living room, bathroom or hallway. If you put it on a certain section of the wall here, you can jot down nice quotes, notes and ideas on it. A blackboard in the kitchen, on the other hand, functions as an ideal shopping list. You can also use blackboard paint to beautify a worn piece of furniture and other furnishings, for example:
- Drawers
- Table surfaces
- Flower pots
- and much more
Since blackboard paint adheres to many different surfaces and provides excellent coverage, you can use it to work on a wide variety of objects. There are practically no limits to your imagination. With the products from our online shop, you have the option of integrating your new board perfectly into your existing furnishings.
What is the difference between blackboard paint and blackboard lacquer?
The two terms blackboard paint and blackboard lacquer are often used synonymously. However, there are differences between the two variants:
Blackboard paint
- Has a matte finish
- It is particularly suitable for embellishing walls and furniture
- The dense pigmentation causes a very high color intensity on walls
Blackboard lacquer
- Characterized by a glossy surface
- Can be applied to plastic, metal, wood, glass and stone surfaces
- Can be written on just like normal blackboard paint
Make sure to buy water-based blackboard paint that is free from harmful substances such as lead or VOCs (volatile organic compounds). At magnet-shop.com you only get products that comply with the current RoHS guidelines and consciously avoid hazardous substances.
How do you apply blackboard paint to a wall or other surface?
The application of blackboard paint is usually absolutely uncomplicated. When painted, it behaves just like any other color. It is important that you stir the product well in advance before applying it to the wall. In addition, you should sufficiently cover and mask floors or other objects nearby so that they do not get dirty.
The ideal basis for blackboard paint is particularly smooth and slightly absorbent surfaces, including:
Ideally, you should apply the paint to larger areas with a paint roller. In order to achieve the most even result possible, it is best to use a foam roller.
On the other hand, a brush is ideal for smaller areas. Also make sure that the surface is free of dust and wallpaper residues and that it is dry before painting. This is the only way for the blackboard paint to adhere optimally.
Rough surfaces, such as plaster, should be sanded down a little beforehand. It is similar with substrates made of woodchip wallpaper. You could theoretically paint it over with blackboard paint, but the unevenness would still push through afterwards. We therefore recommend that you remove wallpaper beforehand or cover the corresponding wall with chipboard or plasterboard. If a surface is particularly absorbent, it may also be advisable to apply a deep primer beforehand.
How long does blackboard paint take to dry?
Since blackboard paint is fundamentally insoluble in water, you should always put on protective clothing before applying it. This will avoid unsightly paint splatters on your clothing, which will be very difficult to remove later. As a rule, it is sufficient to paint a surface once with blackboard paint. In this case, half a liter of paint is sufficient for an area of approximately 5 m². After the paint has dried for 48 hours, you can get started and dedicate your new board to whatever mood you want!
